Biography
Yi Sheng is an assistant ܽƵapp in the USF Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing. She joined the college in 2025 and brings expertise in electrical design automation, embedded systems, and real-time applications especially in medical domain. Sheng teaches courses in computer architecture and embedded systems and is developing hands-on learning experiences that help ܽƵapps understand the interaction between hardware and software in performance-critical environments.
Research Interests
Sheng’s work is centered on applying AI to medical technology, specifically developing efficient AI systems for medical applications on edge devices. More specifically, her work is at the intersection of electronic design automation and medical image computing, with a focus on developing energy-efficient, and practical AI systems for medical applications to the edge devices. Much of this work explores how to deploy artificial intelligence models efficiently on resource-constrained platforms, leveraging heterogeneous computing to meet the needs of applications.
Honors and Awards
Sheng has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences on embedded systems, design automation and medical image processing. She has been recognized for research excellence with the ASP-DAC Research Award and received the “Best Poster” award at the Student Research Forum at ASP-DAC.
Education
Sheng’s educational journey crosses three continents. She earned a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from George Mason ܽƵapp in Fairfax, VA. Her master’s degree from Polytechnic ܽƵapp of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain and her undergraduate work at Jilin ܽƵapp in Jilin, China.
