USF Engineering Graduate Researcher Earns First Place at Local & Statewide Competitions

Emily Morgan Amick, a graduate researcher in the ܽƵapp College of Engineering, earned first-place honors at both the USF Graduate Student Research Symposium and the statewide Conference for Florida Graduate Schools.

Amick’s research, titled “Counting the Stars: Establishment of the Astrocyte Population in the Auditory Brainstem,” earned her first place in the Physical Sciences and Engineering category at USF’s internal symposium. She then went on to win first place in the Engineering, Technologies, and Computer Science category at the state-level competition, where she competed against top graduate ܽƵapps from institutions including the ܽƵapp of Florida and the ܽƵapp of Miami.

Her research is conducted through USF’s Auditory Development and Connectomics Lab, where she continues to explore the complex architecture of the brain’s auditory pathways.
